Friends, Reconnecting and travel | World Cruises & Travel

What could be more fulfilling than reconnecting with a friend that you have known almost your entire life? This past week, I had just that opportunity. My friend Patti, from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania was here in Florida for a six-day escape from the winter weather. I met Patti in 1961 when we were 6th grade classmates in Elementary school. You can do the math ? our friendship has lasted for 52 years.
Although we have each gone on with our own lives over the many years, time and distance have not diminished our relationship. Blair and I picked Patti up at the airport on Thursday night, and then we went out for a nice relaxing dinner to get reacquainted again. On Saturday, we decided that we also needed to reacquaint ourselves with nature, and headed south to Everglades National Park. We spent the day walking, seeing plenty of alligators, and so much wildlife that Blair and I realize how grateful we are to have this national treasure almost in our own backyard. After a full day in the park, we stopped at ?Robert Is Here? on the way home. This Florida institution, established in 1960, is the most extraordinary ?fruit stand?. We loaded up on mangoes, avocados, and all sorts of vegetables ? and we each had a mango milkshake accompanied by live music.

Last night, we had a quiet Italian dinner at one of my favorite Fort Lauderdale restaurants ? Caf? Vico. Good wine, good food, good conversation, good friends ? what a great way to top off this week. Tomorrow, it will be back to the airport, as Patti flies home.
So what does all of this have to do with travel? It has to do with the way Blair, Kathy, and I approach our travel business. Our business is built on the relationships we have with our clients, and the connectedness we have with them. No, we don?t quite have 52-year relationships with our clients yet; but we have many 20+ year relationships, and it is truly fulfilling to provide extraordinary travel experiences for them and their families and then to hear the great stories when they return.
