Former Major League Baseball all-star Brad Hawpe to join Bees

SALT LAKE CITY ? The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced today that the club has assigned recent signee and 2009 MLB All-Star Brad Hawpe to Triple-A Salt Lake from extended spring training. In addition, infielder Chance Ross has been reassigned to extended spring training from Salt Lake.

Hawpe, 33, spent the 2012 season with the Frisco Roughriders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, and hit .260 with six doubles, three home runs and 12 RBI in 35 games. A veteran of eight major league seasons, Hawpe owns a .276 batting average with 124 home runs, 176 doubles and 490 RBI. Originally selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 11th round of the 2000 Draft, he reached All-Star status with the Rockies in 2009. The Fort Worth, Texas native has also appeared in games with the Tampa Bay Rays and San Diego Padres.
